Instagram Beta Testing New Repost Feature

Instagram Beta Testing New Repost Feature

Instagram’s long-awaited “repost” feature is finally coming soon. However, not all users will be able to use it.

A Meta representative confirmed to TechCrunch on September 8th that they will soon test the repost feature with a small group of people.

Meta has not yet announced this soon-to-be feature today.

The Reposts Tab is Being Tested

How did the news get to the community?

Matt Navara, a social media consultant, took a screenshot of Adam Mosseri’s profile and sent it to his followers on Twitter on September 7th.

The screenshots suggest that users soon have a Repost tab in their profile. This tab will likely contain all a user’s reposts to their account.

Others could locate the introduction screen to allow users to be selected to test the feature, which was introduced by Alessandro Paluzzi months ago.

This news is again relevant as Adam’s profile appears to be the first spotted in the wild with the Reposts function. This beta test is being quietly launched by Instagram, which may have been working on it for a while.

Keep Up with Other Platforms

Instagram’s repost feature seems to have been a long time in coming. Instagram allows users to post posts in their stories but not in their feeds.

This feature has been available on Twitter since its Retweet function. Users can reshare tweets shared by other users to their Twitter feed.

TikTok also tested its version for reposting. TikTok has a Repost feature, which shares specific content with users’ followers. It doesn’t show all shared posts.

Why Matters

Instagram users used to have to use third-party apps to post content. There are security and privacy concerns when third-party apps are connected to any social account.

Users can remove unwanted third-party apps by adding the Repost function and can post natively.

The Repost feature allows users to share content directly in their feeds instead of using their stories’ features.

Repost allows content creators to be discovered faster from a content standpoint. It credits the source because users can directly share content to their feed.

Expected Repost Rollout

Although some users have already seen this function, Instagram has yet to share any information about its rollout plans or whether it intends to make it available to everyone.

This article will be updated as more information becomes available about the feature.
